“ A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive, and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done” ~ Vince Lombardi
As a self employed health professional who has worked in the industry for over 20 years when it comes to personal health accountability only a small percentage of the population have it, own it, understand it, yet the majority of us want it.
“SUCCESS”, either personal, professional, financial, emotional, spiritual or a combination of all.
Statistics show that we would all like to look better, feel better, eat better, exercise more, earn more, work less, stress less, travel often and laugh frequently. Nevertheless, for one reason or another we are comfortable being comfortable. However, there are a small minority that are intrinsically motivated, whose “want” is greater than there “why” and there never say die attitude is reflected in their behaviour. It is no coincidence that they all have one common characteristic…their intentions and their desired outcomes are determined by their continued commitment to take control of their emotions.
So why do the majority of us struggle with this emotional roller coaster?
Why do we struggle to get fit, lose weight, pay off our credit card debt, have meaningful passionate relationships, travel more and stress less?
We simply don’t like being uncomfortable and we don’t (not can’t) control our emotions (it’s too hard, I just can’t do it, I tried, they are lucky). When the going get’s tough we regress and let self-doubt override our grey matter because it’s comfortable. What’s the old saying, ‘ when the going gets tough, the tough get going’.
If you want to create change then from today forward you must eliminate this negativity, you must take ownership of your emotions because if you don’t know one else will. At the end of the day know one else really cares about your success or your failures. Why, because they will tell you, ‘That’s Life’!
BULLSHIT ‘that’s life’, it’s not life, it’s a learning so suck it up, swallow your pride, review your ‘want’ and get back out there and try again. If you fail, go again and again and again, find a way. It’s time to get comfortable being uncomfortable if you want to change something.
Life was never going to be easy, but shit it can be as good as you want it to be. You just have to own it and take responsibility for it, your actions, your growth, your development, your success and your failures! Rule out compliancy and embrace consistency, as constant commitment equals success.
The best people in the world across any sport or industry understand that to be successful you need to,
- Sacrifice certain things,
- Stay committed to your end goal,
- Have clarity,
- Have a plan &
- Have the ability to test and measure your progress.
The simple facts are, you can’t manage it, if you can’t measure it, so it’s time to get ‘comfortable being uncomfortable’.
